Kathryn is a construction lawyer with more than 10 years’ experience specialising in the construction and projects area of law, with a more recent focus on the disputes side. Kathryn has worked in Sydney and Brisbane acting for clients across Australia. As such, she has unique knowledge into each States’ construction laws and regimes.
Kathryn joins GRT Lawyers as Special Counsel from an in-house legal counsel role for a global mining company. In her previous role, Kathryn was managing the rail contracts for a mine worth over approximately $500 million. Having worked in this role, Kathryn has gained invaluable insight into the business side of a project and how to add value as a lawyer for the business. This includes balancing the commercial and legal risk for the optimal outcome. Prior to her in-house role, Kathryn was in private practice specialising in “front end” and “back end” construction. In broad terms, this includes construction litigation, arbitration and adjudication under the various security of payment regimes throughout each state of Australia, drafting contracts and advising on risks; and generally advising clients on contract management and dispute avoidance. Kathryn provides tailored and practical legal support to assist her clients identify and manage risk, avoid and resolve disputes, and achieve commercial outcomes.
Kathryn holds Bachelors Degrees in Law and Business (QUT) and memberships with:
- Queensland Law Society (QLS);
- Society of Construction Law Australia (SOCLA); and
- National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC), Queensland Chapter.
