ASIC TO CLEAR OUT UNUSED BUSINESS NAMES

ASIC will shortly be contacting business name holders in order to ensure that the register of business names is accurate and up to date and in order to free up business names available for registration.

Background

On 20 June 2014, ASIC announced that it would soon commence a program to free up the number of business names available for registration.

What will happen and what this means for you

ASIC will be contacting business name holders regarding ASICs intention to cancel their business name registration, in order to ensure that the register of business names is up to date. The business name holders will then have two months to renew their business name otherwise ASIC will cancel the registration. Renewing a business name in Australia may be done online via ASIC Connect and can be done for 1 year ($34) or 3 years ($78).
